Chemical Peels

Peninsula Glow Medical Spa
It’s difficult to forget a face. In just about every interaction we have, our faces are usually the focal point. And even if someone else isn’t immediately aware of a flaw we have, it’s enough that we are aware of it ourselves. So if there was a way to improve that appearance, why wouldn’t you go for it?
Here is some good news: a chemical peel can provide you with that improvement. Whether you are looking to feel better about your general appearance or want to look a little more glamorous for an important event, a chemical peel at Peninsula Glow Medical Spa is the perfect way to achieve those goals.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a medical treatment that is performed to improve your skin’s appearance. The procedure uses an FDA-approved chemical mixture to remove dead skin and other pollutants, revealing a vibrant and more youthful layer. Unlike other treatments, a chemical peel does not require injections, incisions, or any form of invasive procedure, making it among the most popular options available on the skincare market.

What Chemical Peel Options Are Available?

At Peninsula Glow Medical Spa, we offer three different SkinMedica peels that can address a range of various concerns and skin types. Each peel is designed to address a different level of skin concerns, but all three of these peels must be administered or overseen by a licensed medical professional.

Illuminize Peel

The SkinMedica Illuminize Peel is the most gentle of the three facial peels. It is designed to provide you with a more uniform complexion and radiant skin by treating mild cases of skin aging and uneven skin tones and textures. This means subtle sunspots, fine lines, and discoloration can be improved, but you will need a more powerful peel to address anything more than mild concerns.

Vitalize Peel

The SkinMedica Vitalize Peel is one step above the Illuminize Peel and provides a more powerful chemical formula aimed at treating mild to moderate skin conditions. Fine lines, wrinkles, roughness, and discoloration can all be addressed with the Vitalize Peel. For most patients, this option will be sufficiently powerful to tackle their skin concerns.

Rejuvenize Peel

As the most potent SkinMedica peel chemical formula, the Rejuvenize Peel can tackle moderate to severe cases of fine lines, wrinkles, skin roughness, and discoloration. This level of treatment is generally reserved for patients with the most extensive conditions. Your medical professional will let you know if it is an appropriate choice for your needs.

Am I a Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

The vast majority of people are considered candidates for a SkinMedica chemical peel. While the Illuminize and Vitalize Peels can be used on any skin type, it is recommended that patients with a darker skin complexion test their reaction to the treatment with the Vitalize peel before moving forward with the Rejuvenize peel.

During your initial consultation with Peninsula Glow Medical Spa, our team will help you determine which peel is appropriate for your conditions. If you have underlying skin concerns that may be agitated by a chemical peel, your physician may provide you with alternative solutions that better fit your needs.

Here are some of the concerns that a chemical peel can address:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Mild scars
  • Acne
  • Age spots
  • Freckles
  • Dark patches
  • Poor skin texture
  • Rosacea

How Should I Prepare for a Chemical Peel?

We recommend that any procedures, activities, and products that will make your skin more sensitive are avoided. This includes at-home treatments, as well as excessive sun exposure. One of our experienced providers will be able to assist with more information about the steps you should take in the days and weeks before and after your treatment.

What Should I Expect from a Chemical Peel Procedure?

The entire chemical peel treatment will last about 20 minutes. Prior to the procedure, our staff is happy to answer any questions and address any concerns you may have. We recommend setting aside 45 minutes for the procedure and all of the preparation. After that time, you will be able to return to your normal activities — no downtime needed!

The Illuminize Peel is the only peel that does not require multiple sessions, which is why it is often referred to as the “pre-party” peel. Both the Vitalize and Rejuvenize Peels will require between three and six total sessions spaced three or four weeks apart for best results. Still, each session will only take about 45 minutes since all that is changing is the intensity of the formula.

What Should I Expect During Chemical Peel Recovery?

The lack of recovery or downtime from a chemical peel is one of its biggest draws. You can return to your routine right away without missing a single beat. While the Illuminize Peel does not cause any side effects other than mild redness in some cases, the Vitalize and Rejuvenize options may cause light skin peeling redness for up to 14 days. With that being said, many patients report these side effects fading within the first day or two.

What Should I Expect During Chemical Peel Recovery?

The Illuminize Peel offers great touchup results as frequently as every two weeks and will provide you with a noticeably more radiant and healthy skin glow. It takes a little longer for the Vitalize and Rejuvenize options to show their final results, but after three to six treatments, you can expect substantial improvement in any fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, or textural concerns.

Since environmental factors and the aging process constantly batter your skin, the results will only last as long you commit to maintaining them. The Illuminize treatment can be part of your regular skin regimen, but you should also speak to one of our medical professionals about how often you can have the Vitalize and Rejuvenize options performed.

Can I Combine My Chemical Peel with Other Procedures?

We often come across patients who are looking to develop an entire skin treatment program. Luckily, chemical peels are easy to combine in a rejuvenation plan with other treatments like Botox, dermal fillers, and even other forms of skin facials. Let one of our medical professionals know what treatments or improvements you would like made, and we will make sure to develop a perfect treatment plan for your aesthetic goals.

How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost?

Because of how different each patient’s condition is and the different types of available peels, we cannot provide an accurate cost estimate without going through the consultation process. We recommend that you schedule a consultation with our office so that one of our medical professionals can provide you with accurate pricing.
