Dermal Fillers

Sculptra | Peninsula Glow Medical Spa

Time brings numerous changes to our faces, many of which are neither invited nor welcomed. With time, our bodies gradually produce less collagen, an essential structural protein that helps maintain the firmness and elasticity of the skin. We also lose the fat that once gave us a plump, youthful facial structure and sustains damage from sun exposure.

The result? A sagging, dull and wrinkled look that makes us appear older and more tired than we feel.

Thankfully, with advancements in aesthetic medicine, time is no longer the irreversible issue it once was. It’s possible to restore that radiant, youthful look you once possessed with a variety of non-surgical treatments. Injectable fillers are an excellent option for many of our clients who want to improve signs of aging or highlight specific features without an invasive surgical procedure.

Dermal fillers are unique, versatile treatments that can help patients improve their appearance by smoothing wrinkles and folds, adding volume to the cheeks or lips, and filling out the hollows beneath the eyes. If you’re a resident of Monterey, CA, or any surrounding communities and are looking to reverse the signs of age without surgery, look no further than Peninsula Glow Medical Spa. To schedule a dermal filler consultation with one of our highly trained practitioners, please give us a call at (831) 233-3143.

What Are Dermal Fillers? What Can They Do for Me?

Injectable dermal fillers are used to smooth the skin, add volume to targeted areas and create a revitalized appearance. There are many brands and formulas of dermal fillers, but some of the most popular ones contain hyaluronic acid. This substance is naturally present in the body, providing cushion, lubrication, and elasticity to the joints and tissues. When introduced to areas of the face that are hollow or sagging, it adds support and volume. This added plumpness ultimately creates a more youthful look. Hyaluronic acid also stimulates the body’s collagen production rate, allowing the treatment results to last for a sustained amount of time.
Dermal fillers are used to treat lines known as ‘static wrinkles.’ These wrinkles are commonly the result of age and genetics, determining how much an individual’s collagen production rate drops over time. Other factors that contribute to the formation of static lines include sun damage, harmful toxins, and lifestyle choices. Static wrinkles are unavoidable because of so many contributing factors, but with dermal fillers, you can minimize their appearance while maximizing your sense of self.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate?

Our injectors will examine your areas of concern during an initial consultation to determine if dermal fillers can help. Dermal fillers are suitable for most clients, regardless of skin tone or type. The treatment is popular with patients in the middle stages of life who desire its non-surgical rejuvenating effects and younger patients seeking to enhance aspects of their appearance, such as their lips, jawline, or cheekbones. Our injectors will also review your current health and medical history to make sure dermal fillers are a safe option for you.

Dermal fillers are remarkably versatile products with a wide range of benefits. With strategically placed fillers, our injectors can improve concerns, including the following:

  • Marionette lines (lines near the mouth and chin)
  • Nasolabial folds (creases that run from the nose to the mouth)
  • Volume loss in the cheeks
  • Dark circles beneath the eye
  • Thin lips
  • Forehead lines

Dermal Fillers Offered at Peninsula Glow Medical Spa

At Peninsula Glow Medical Spa, we offer patients seeking non-surgical facial rejuvenation several different dermal filler choices. These fillers are all effective, but some may be more beneficial than others, depending on your desired outcome and the areas needing treatment. Your injector will discuss the options available during your consultation and help you choose the product that is most suited to your particular concerns. Our menu of dermal fillers includes:

Juvéderm

Juvéderm is a highly effective filler that can enhance facial features, fill fine lines and deep wrinkles, and restore volume to almost any area of the face. Made of hyaluronic acid, Juvéderm helps support the underlying tissue of the skin to increase firmness and smoothness. Juvéderm is a family of products; each product is uniquely formulated to address specific concerns and areas. Juvéderm products may be used to lift the cheeks for a more contoured look, smooth lines around the nose and mouth, or add volume to the lips. The results are long-lasting and noticeable instantly. Juvéderm is one of our most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments.

Restylane

Restylane is another family of dermal fillers that contain hyaluronic acid. These products are well-suited for treating a wide range of wrinkles, from mild to severe cases. Although seemingly similar, Juvéderm and Restylane differ in their consistency. Restylane has a more granular quality to it, which makes it heavier and less likely to spread. Because it tends to stay in place wherever it’s injected, Restylane may be ideal for treating areas were significantly increased volume is desired. Results are noticed shortly after injection and last 9-12 months before maintenance is required.

Radiesse

Radiesse is distinctly different from Juvéderm and Restylane. Rather than hyaluronic acid, it consists of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres. The ingredients of Radiesse are structurally similar to the components of bone and teeth. Radiesse effectively stimulates the body’s natural collagen production to firm and tighten the skin when introduced to the body. Radiesse is a particularly beneficial treatment for patients seeking to add volume to the backs of their hands, their cheeks, or jawline. Preliminary results for Radiesse are noticeable right away, but it can take up to one week for them to reach their greatest potential.

The Dermal Filler Treatment

After determining which dermal filler best suits your needs, our injectors will assess your facial structure and identify the best sites for injection. They will also determine the number of doses needed to meet your goals. The chosen treatment area will be cleaned and sterilized to ensure your health and safety. Then, a fine needle will be placed under the skin, and the filler will be injected. A topical anesthetic may be applied before the treatment, and all fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, to minimize injection discomfort. The injection process is quick, and any discomfort should soon subside, no matter which filler is used.

After injection, your injector may massage the treated area to spread the filler and mold it to your facial contours. We may provide you with an ice pack to apply to the injected area to alleviate any lingering pain. Depending on the number of injected areas and the number of doses used, a dermal filler treatment typically takes 20 to 30 minutes.

Recovery and Results

Side effects following dermal filler appointments are generally mild. The treated area may be swollen, red, bruised, or tender, but these are natural reactions and typically resolve shortly. How long your results take to be noticed depends on which dermal filler is used. Most clients can resume working and other activities without any downtime.
Results following an injectable filler appointment may be immediately evident or require a few days to begin emerging. The timeline depends on which type of filler is used. Each type of filler also has a different lifespan. Most last between six months and one year, but some can last for 18 months or even two years.
Regular maintenance appointments are required for sustained results, as your body will gradually absorb the filler over time. Our injectors will explain what you can reasonably expect from your results during your initial consultation.
